The legends around Guayusa
A part of the holly tree genus, this plant has been historically used by native communities across Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru in the making of teas, as well as for trading. Guayusa is a caffeinated species, and can be a natural source of components that may enhance focus and cognitive energy.
Indigenous folklore from the Kichwa people even tells the story of a woman who didn’t engage in her community’s work because she’d feel much too tired and unwilling, yet when the Guayusa tree advised her to drink its tea to find her energy, her habits changed and she became an active part of her people’s work, emphasizing the benefits Guayusa can offer.
Another tale focuses on the origins of Guayusa. According to it, before becoming a plant that is sacred to many, Guayusa was a powerful spirit associated with the jaguar. This spirit would encourage people to pursue their dreams and chase after their goals, helping them make wise decisions and energizing their own spirits.
Maya’s Guayusa Dry Extract
The main ingredient used for this product is the Guayusa plant, which is sustainably harvested straight from the tropical rainforest territory at the Marañón River region, in Peru. Its leaves must be manually harvested, picked individually once they have matured, and separated from the stems before they are used in the making of teas and medicinal products.
Studies have proven Guayusa to be a much more beneficial source of energy than other caffeinated beverages such as coffee or energy drinks, since, while still being a stimulant, it promotes significantly lower increases in epinephrine (a hormone that triggers nervous, shaky behavior associated with excessive caffeine). This sacred plant is also rich in theanine, theobromine, and polyphenal antioxidants.
Maya’s Guayusa Dry Extract offers all the benefits this incredible specimen can provide in the form of a very finely grounded powder, concentrated in this 12:1 formula. It is a ready-to-use, partly water-soluble product, with a subtle taste and plenty of healthy benefits.
We recommend keeping it dry places, and if possible, next to natural desiccants such as rice or salt.
