More About String Smudge
This smudge is crafted from a piece of natural rope soaked in a solution of Sipá or Breu Branco, a variety of Brazilian copal. Breu Branco is a tree resin harvested and used either fresh or dried. Sipá is traditionally utilized by regional tribes, such as the Yawanawá, during prayers and healing ceremonies. When someone is ill or there is negative energy present, the first step they take is to burn Sipá to cleanse the area and ensure their prayers are carried to where they need to go.
In this string form, the smudge has a delightful, sweet smell and is highly effective. It can be used multiple times. Locally, it is referred to as a “Vela Indiana” or Indian candle.
