Banisteriopsis caapi (Ayahuasca)

Peru, Red, Maduro, Vine, Shredded from Peru (SKU 3587)

Mature red vines from a community of the Achuar tribe from the Amazon Jungle near Iquitos, Peru. These vines have been planted over 25 years ago by local shamans who passed over to the other side a while ago. Their children sell these vines as they don't use them theirselves. Our contact, who bought the vines for us, replanted new vines with tribe members. Harvested July 2016

Banisteriopsis caapi (Spruce ex Griseb.) Morton. Malpighiaceae (Malpighia family), Pyramidotorea, Tribus Banisteriae. One hundred species of plants in tropical America. It is a shrub or extensive liana in tropical forests. Bark usually chocolate-brown, smooth. Leaves opposite, oval-shaped, green, marginally entire, 8-18 cm long, 3.5-8 cm wide, upper surface glaborous. Inflorescence axillary or terminal cymose panicles. Flowers 12-14 mm in diameter 2.5-3 mm long, 1.5 mm wide. Petals pink, 5-7 mm long, 4-5 mm wide. This liana is mainly propagated vegetatively because it rarely blossoms and sets seed.
