The Balsam Fir, Abies Balsamea, belongs to the Pinaceae (Pine family). It is a North American tree closely related to the Fraser Fir (Abies fraseri). The Balsam Fir is small- to medium-sized, growing from around 46 to 66 feet, with a narrow conic crown. It has small, needle-like, resinous, dark green leaves and narrow conic crown. Many animals eat food from the tree, including moose, some types of squirrels, crossbills, chickadees and types of caterpillars. Other animals use the balsam fir for shelter.
