More about Mulungu in Capsules
What is Mulungu?
Erythrina mulungu is a branched tree native to the Brazilian sphere of the Amazon Forest that has been revered and respected by different indigenous cultures as a source of sacred healing, who sometimes refer to it as “Flor de Coral”, meaning Coral Tree, due to its reddish coloration.
Across history, accounts of Mulungu being used in North American treatments for shock and trauma induced hysteria are also present. Other uses found for this plant’s compounds and effects revolve around the upkeep of healthier sleeping patterns in individuals who suffer from insomnia or “patchy” sleep cycles.
Why is Mulungu good for you?
The reason why it works to induce better sleep and as a natural anxiolytic is the calming properties promoted by a component called hypaphorine that acts directly upon the nervous system and grants this plant the title of an organic sedative and a prime agent for dealing with stress and anxiety as well.
Such processes happen because of the high concentration of hypaphorine, erythrine, and erythravine in the plant’s composition, which activate GABA receptors (neurotransmitters responsible for relaxing the nervous system).
Studies have been carried out to assess and describe Mulungu’s pharmacological properties in the treatment of respiratory issues, and the results have shown promising potential for the treatment of asthma. In addition, this plant offers analgesic action, which can help relieve rheumatic pain and menstrual cramps. This happens because of a substance called erythraline, which offers anti-inflammatory properties.
Alkaloid compounds found in Erythrina mulungu provide for the prevention of hypertension by regulating blood pressure, as well, while other components act as antibacterial, anticonvulsant, and hepatoprotective agents.
