Ecuadorian Chacruna (Psychotria Viridis)
Fair Trade Chacruna leaves. This harvesting community is located in Archidona, Napo province, and belongs to the Quichua tribe. Their plants are grown and harvested using only traditional methods, ensuring sustainability and preservation of nature, knowledge and culture.
Psychotria Viridis – Chacruna
Psychotria viridis grows naturally in wet lowland tropical forests, most commonly in Amazonian Peru and Bolivia. But also Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador. It is an evergreen shrub, that grows to a height of up to 5 meter with a spread of 2 meter. The leaves are generally 5-15 x 2-6 cm, in outline generally elliptic or often widest above the middle, usually sharply angled at base. When dry, the leaves of Psychotria viridis usually are grey or reddish brown.
