More about Chaga (Inonotus Obliquus)
Chaga is an amazing medicinal mushroom with properties such as being one of the most powerful antioxidants. It has been used as a food source since antiquity, particularly in Siberia and the former Soviet Union. In Chinese traditional medicine, it is highly valued for its ability to produce good “chi” and bring balance to life energy. Additionally, its potency has been attributed to its slow-growing characteristics. Amongst its long list of benefits, it can reduce inflammation, mitigate pain, purify the blood and protect the liver.
The chaga mushroom or Inonotus obliquus belongs to the Hymenochaetaceae family. The sterile conk looks like burnt charcoal and is parasitic on birch trees and other trees. It is not the fruiting body of the fungus, but rather a mass of mycelium, mostly black due to the presence of melanin in massive amounts.
